Dinkys Hampers are proud to support Guide Dogs UK
We’ve chosen Guide Dogs as our charity partner! Guide Dog’s ambition is a future where every person with sight loss has the confidence and support they need to live their lives to the full. We hope our support will help Guide Dogs to continue providing their life-changing services to adults and children affected by sight loss.
The Guide Dogs story started in 1931 with two amazing British pioneers, Muriel Crooke and Rosamund Bond, from a humble lock up garage in Wallasey, Merseyside. 90 years on Guide Dogs is the world’s largest breeder and trainer of working dogs.
Despite the devastation caused by sight loss, 70% of adults receive no support within the first 12 months of diagnosis, and are likely to encounter poor education, high unemployment, depression, loneliness and financial insecurity throughout their lifetime.
Childhood sight loss is on the increase. There are around 35,000 children and young people living with a vision impairment in the UK. Some 80% of a child’s learning takes place using vision, and every day they go without support can affect their development.
It costs around £63,000 to breed, train and support a guide dog from birth to retirement, However, A guide dog owner may have as many as eight guide dogs in their lifetime bringing the total cost to around £500,000.
How your money can help;
- £5 can support a working guide dog for a day
- £25 can buy a white harness, the iconic symbol of a fully qualified guide dog
- £95 can buy a Training School Kit for a guide dog trainer who teach pups the specialist skills they will need to become a qualified guide dog.
- £140 can buy a Starter Kit for a new guide dog owner containing everything they need to start a life with their new guide dog.
Sight loss can affect anyone at any age and we would like to help Guide Dogs and the amazing work they do.
